Size Matters

So last week I came across a brand owner that is getting kicked to the curb by their copacker. This isn’t the first time someone mentioned this to me. 

What happens too often in the wonderfully chaotic world of copacking is this: 

1. You finally find a copacker.

2. You run production and things seem fine.

3. A bigger brand eats up that copackers capacity. 

4. That copacker gives you 60-90 days to find a new one. 

I’ve experienced this. Brand owners have told me about their experiences with this. Copackers have shared their experiences in this as well. Unfortunately, it’s nearly unavoidable for the smaller brands that aren’t growing quickly. 

I say nearly because there still are copackers that service small and start-up brands exceptionally well. I’m doing my best to find them and share their stories.

Also, be sure that this is covered in your service agreement with your copacker and that you can get the longest possible time to find another copacker.
